  • Overview

    The Senior Systems Engineer will provide direct support to the PMW 170 Satellite Communications APME. 



    • Provides satellite communications capability analysis, end-to-end systems engineering and communications system technical expertise to support Navy Communications programs and projects. 
    • Provide technical representation and coordinate with Navy platform systems integration organizations such as NAVSEA Systems Command, Fleet and Type Commands, internal SPAWAR and PEO C4I production change control boards. 
    • Provide technical representation and assists with the development, management and implementation of Engineering Change Proposals (ECP), Ship Change Documents (SCD), Field Change Bulletins (FCB), and Engineering Change Orders (ECO) fielding procedures. 
    • Support development of the Communications Roadmaps and Program Master Plans and coordinate with platform integration organizations. 
    • Support development of data calls, prepare briefs and advise external organizations for communications issues including generating SATCOM future plans. 
    • Support and coordinate Fleet demonstration and testing of next generation ship, submarine & shore based satellite communication technologies. 
    • Manages the planning, scheduling, and conducts/coordinates phases of the engineering, architecture analysis, technical studies or scientific work in a project or performs work that involves engineering or scientific practices.
    • Typical work may include the following: technical capability analysis, capability gap analysis, requirements decomposing, interface documentation, alternative solution analyses, integration approaches and proof of concept tests.
    • Provide satellite communications coordination for modeling and assessment studies to assist in determining the warfare mission level impacts of communications system investments.
    • Capable of reviewing and commenting on a broad spectrum of technical, operational and budget documentation that impacts Navy communications systems. 
    • Provide guidance and recommendations to outside agencies and internal departments that may interface with Navy Shipboard communications systems. 
    • Travel is required for this position.


    • Must possess excellent writing and verbal skills and email etiquette. 
    • Must be a proactive self-starter, work well independently and with teams in a collaborative engineering environment. 
    • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office products (e.g., Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Visio).
    • Technical experience shall include Navy and Joint communications and network systems and C5I systems and knowledge of end-to-end Navy communications architectures. 
    • Knowledgeable of shipboard communications systems and their capabilities, to include over the horizon SHF, EHF and commercial SATCOM systems. 
    • Be knowledgeable of RF physical layer and Information Assurance (IA) requirements and how they impact Transmission Security (TRANSEC) issues and how these requirements are implemented in communications hardware.  

    Education: Bachelor's Degree, Electrical Engineering or related technical degree required.


    Clearance:  Current/active Secret clearance. Eligible for TS/SCI.
